  • Age 18 - 50 yrs
  • Level C5-C7
  • AIS A, B, C, D
  • 6 months - 50 years
  • have a C5, C6, or C7 level spinal cord injury for at least 6 months and have some motor dysfunction in the hand.
  • have function in the “donor” nerve to be used in the nerve transfer surgery (usually a nerve innervated by a spinal cord segment above the spinal cord injury level).
  • have one of the following ASIA impairment scale (AIS):
  • AIS A: complete; no feeling or movement below the injury
  • AIS B: incomplete; have some feeling, but no movement, below the injury
  • AIS C: incomplete; at least some feeling and mostly weak movement below the injury
  • AIS D: incomplete; at least some feeling and, some weak but mostly stronger movement below the injury)
  • be between the ages of 18 and 50 years
  • NOT have a history of seizures, presence of surgically implanted foreign bodies such as a pacemaker, metal plate in the skull, and metal inside the skull.

  • • have clinical signs of spasticity in the plantarflexor muscles (gas pedal movement).
  • • NOT have a pre-existing or confounding neurological condition (e.g., history of Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Parkinson's disease)
