This trial is recruiting individuals with incomplete spinal cord injuries to test the effect of a “virtual gait system” on walking function. Researchers want to see if recovery is improved by activating “mirror neurons” in the brain; one way to do this is to use visual cues that demonstrate the desired activity. Participants will stand in front of a mirror of their upper body with a monitor below that will demonstrate one of 4 activities: 1) a video of a person’s legs moving on a treadmill, combined with specific walking exercises; 2) a video of legs without any movement, combined with specific walking exercises; 3) a video of a person’s legs moving on a treadmill, without any accompanying exercises; 4) a video without any movement displayed, and without any accompanying exercises. Participants will be assessed for walk speed, gait strength, and changes in spasticity or pain.
