This trial is recruiting individuals with severe speech and physical impairments to test a brain-machine system that gathers and processes brain signals (thought) to generate written communication. The study places non-invasive electrodes on the scalp to record brain activity, which is then sent to a computer (Brain Computer Interface - Functional Implementation Toolkit; BCI-FIT). Users learn to use these signals to perform tasks, this case, to produce written communication (typing). Each participant will complete typing tasks in four arms, 1 time/week for 12 weeks. Healthy participants (controls) will be included in two arms. Speed and accuracy of typing will be assessed, as well as comfort and satisfaction with the device.
