This is a trial to test the effect of implanting a collagen scaffold (e.g. a man-made structure intended to support implanted cells or growth factors although the implantation of cells is not stated) in combination with a technique for stimulating the spinal cord with an implanted electrode placed next to the spinal cord (epidural spinal cord stimulation: ESCS) on recovery after spinal cord injury. If included, the participant will undergo surgery for implantation of the collagen scaffold and receive ESCS after the surgery. If the participant already has an implanted collagen scaffold, they will only receive ESCS. This trial contains arms for both acute (< 14 days) and chronic (>6 months) SCI.
